Notice to Ganga authority on pollution

Calcutta high court on Wednesday served notice on the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA), asking it to explain what action has been taken to dredge the Hooghly (an offshoot of the Ganga in West Bengal)and keep it pollution-free. The court was hearing a petition by environment activist Subhas Datta. It has also wanted to know from the Diamond Harbour Municipality if hotels that have come up on the banks of the Hooghly there are authorized. read more →
