I was in NCR recently, running around all the way from Gurgaon to Noida, and one striking feature of transportation is the change to e-vehicles for the three-wheelers.
Along with the CNG autos (CNG is mandatory for public transport in Delhi), this time I saw a significant number of electric three wheelers – both e-autorickshaws and e-rickshaws.
SmartE is there for you, rain or shine.
Electrifying three wheelers is perhaps the smartest route to quickly making at least a reasonable part of our fleet on roads clean. These do not cost humongous amounts like their car counterparts (and with subsidies, they might be on par with diesel or CNG autorickshaws), the range challenge is a lot less for them than for cars which might have to travel much longer distances on a single trip, and hopefully with Li-ion batteries (which can have 3-4 hours charging time) their charging can also be taken care of when the driver is resting at night.
Among the e-autorickshaws I saw in CNR, one brand that was prominent was SmartE…and so it was not very surprising to read that SmartE has landed a Rs 100 crore investment in Series B from Japanese conglomerate Mitsui & Co.
