*The solar lease/PPA market is growing by leaps and bounds, growing at 174 % in the first two months !!Big money has gotten behind solar leasing ! Not yet in India !Sunrun pioneered the idea of the solar lease in 2007, and still controls most of the market. Depending on where a customer lives, the program entails either a solar lease, which consists of the consumer paying a fixed amount monthly regardless of how much power the system produces, or a power purchase agreement, whereby the customer is billed only for the amount of power his system generates. * Imec, Polyera and Solvay set 8.3% efficiency record for organic solar cell with inverted device architectureImec, Polyera and international chemical group Solvay have achieved a new world-record efficiency of 8.3% for polymer-based single junction organic solar cells in an inverted device stack. These excellent performance results represent a crucial step towards successful commercialization of organic photovoltaic cells. Solar power is gradually becoming cost-competitive with traditional mainstream energy sources such as coal, oil, and nuclear. Continued reduction of manufacturing and installation costs of solar panels will further drive this cost-competitiveness. Organic solar cells are holding the promise of addressing these issues, due… - more»

xyzsolar power panels over a small part of the Narmada canal network is multi-purpose nature – it seeks to achieve a number of things & get around some endemic problems. The power panels will generate electricity from solar power – something states in India should anyway be attempting to do. Second, by placing the solar power panels over the canal, the state has in one stroke gotten over land acquisition issues. No additional land needs to be bought. Moreover, by covering the canal with panels, Gujarat expects to reduce water loss through evaporation. Finally, power generated through these panels will… - more»

Re introduction of Accelerated Depreciation ie AD and Generation Based Incentive ie GBI for wind energy in India is likely !!The renewable energy ministry is planning to re-introduce incentives for the wind energy sector to allay fears that capacity addition could fall after the sops were withdrawn from April 1. The government rolled back two key incentives for the sector this year: accelerated depreciation and generation-based incentive. Industry players say the withdrawal of these sops will keep power producers at bay and could reduce annual capacity addition to less than 1,000 mw in 2012-13, against the target of 3,000 mw. http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/energy/power/government-may-re-introduce-sops-for-wind-farms/articleshow/12873801.cms-more»
