rice hsuk mini power plants inj Bihar , where the electricity is being produced by burning rice husk , which in turn heats the water in a mini boiler which is coupled to a turbine and that is connected with the generator . Hence farmers are getting electricity even from their produce waste . - more»

Solar Energy Startups in India The solar cell is inherently inefficient. The original solar cell, which was invented in 1883, had an energy-conversion efficiency of less than 1 percent, while the efficiency of the first viable photovoltaic cell, Bell Labs Solar Battery, which was developed in 1954, was about 6 percent. After nearly 130 years of research and development, the average energy conversion efficiency of the solar cell is now only about 15 percent, meaning that only a fraction of the suns energy is converted into electricity. Moreover the silicon solar cell appears to be reaching its theoretical limits of efficiency. Because of… - more»

Private collaborations with R&D at the many national energy labs in US helps Solar energy startupsPrivate collaborations with R&D at the many national energy labs in the United States aren’t new, but they have been stepped up. That’s because the labs are not purely governmental, industrial, or academic, so the type of research the labs do includes applied, commercial, and basic, respectively. The United States government’s energy labs offer their research and funding through a recently stepped-up “technology transfer” process that allows private companies to use the research and technologies to speed-up the commercialization of any new technologies that can…-more»

You’re an Indian businesswoman, with a brilliant idea for a high-tech startup. All you need is a year in Silicon Valley – time to network, sell the concept, raise capital and start the project. The problem is U.S. immigration officials would let you visit, but won’t let you stay.Blueseed, a floating city, operating outside the jurisdiction of American immigration authorities – and offering daily ferry boat or helicopter ride to Silicon Valley – could be the answer.Blueseed that could house 1,000 entrepreneurs will be anchored 12 miles off the coast of the San Francisco peninsula — aka Silicon Valley — sometime…-more»

Anna posted Organic solar cell with inverted architecture achieves 8.3 percent efficiency 0 5 months ago
Imec, Polyera and Solvay announce that they have achieved a world record efficiency of 8.3 percent on their organic solar cells, which use inverted architecture. The group has recorded the efficiency on its polymer-based single junction organic solar cells in an inverted device stack. "These excellent performance results represent a crucial step towards successful commercialization of organic photovoltaic cells," said Imec in a statement released. The company has designed a proprietary inverted bulk heterojunction architecture for polymer-based solar cells, which is said to simultaneously optimize cell light management and increase device stability. "With this architecture, and a proprietary Polyera semiconductor in… - more»

Anna posted Breakthrough could double solar energy output 0 5 months ago
A new discovery from a chemist at the University of Texas at Austin may allow photovoltaic solar cells to double their efficiency, thus providing loads more electrical power from regular sunlight. Not only that, but it’s way cheap. Chemistry professor Xiaoyang Zhu and his team discovered that an organic plastic semiconductor could double the number of electrons harvested out of one photon of sunlight. Yep, plastic. An issue with regular photovoltaic panels is that much of the energy delivered by sunlight comes in the form of “hot” electrons, which are too high-energy to be converted to electricity in silicon and are instead lost as… - more»

Anna posted Soitec Releases Portable CPV Mini-Tracker 0 5 months ago
Soitec (Euronext), a world leader in generating and manufacturing revolutionary semiconductor materials for the electronics and energy industries, announced today that the company has expanded its family of concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) products with its new Plug&Sun product. This new model easy to install is the first stand-alone mini-tracker consisting of 3m² of highly efficiency modules. The new Plug&Sun system is designed for use in highly sunny regions with no power grid or unreliable grid connections. The mobile power-generating station’s durability and tolerance for high temperatures make it well suited for remote usage. The Plug&Sun stand-alone mini-tracker aims to supplement or replace… - more»

Anna posted 9 % economic growth of India will also need high consumption of energy, succesful implementation of JNNSM is key ! 0 5 months ago
The government of INdia has targeted 9 per cent annual expansion in the country's GDP over the next five years, even though the country's economy is passing through a difficult phase. The Centre recently reduced the GDP growth forecast for the ongoing 2011-12 financial year to 7.5 per cent (plus/minus 0.25 per cent), as against the earlier projection of around 9 per cent. Singh said since the country relies on imports for a large component of its energy requirement, it is vital to "re-double" efforts to enhance energy efficiency as a step toward reducing the energy intensity of the national GDP. The National… - more»

* “Historic Breakthrough: The Planet Is Saved” to “Tragic Failure: The Planet Is Doomed.”My conclusion is that for now, at least, the conceptual advance made in Durban is as good as it gets. This advance is, potentially, huge: For the first time, officials of the nations that are the biggest carbon emitters — China, the United States and India — have agreed to negotiate legally binding restrictions. Under the old Kyoto Protocol framework, which for now remains largely in effect, rapidly industrializing nations refused to be constricted by limits that would stunt their development. The United States declined to sign on… - more»
