Narsi commented on the EAI 360 News Shrinking windmills to fit on rooftops 4 months ago
@Rama13 - good points...overall, in my opinion, small wind turbines on rooftop are not yet ready for prime time. You have already pointed out some of the key problems. Another problem I would like to point out is the overall PLF for small wind turbines. Typically, the PLFs are very low because the wind speeds within cities are low as well. Thus, unless one is using vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs) which are not economical right now, I'm afraid small wind turbines on urban rooftops might not produce enough electricity to be economically sustainable as well-more»

Narsi commented on the EAI 360 News NTPC to set up 5 MW solar farm in Andamans 4 months ago
Good idea...islands such as the Andamans use diesel to a significant extent for their power, and the diesel in Andamans should be costing a lot more in Andamans than in the mainland...these aspects should make solar power very competitive indeed-more»

Narsi commented on the EAI 360 News Indian Government Okay with Chinese Solar Cells if they Meet Quality Standards 4 months ago
Rather than go on the offensive against Chinese imports (which is only delaying the inevitable), let's go on the offensive, put our brains to good use and start competing with them by building a powerful manufacturing ecosystem. But the ecosystem cannot compete with Chinese on the same rules that Chinese play; we will have to be more innovative and somehow alter the rules of the game. What can we learn from our success in the auto industry?-more»

Narsi commented on the EAI 360 News Large solar units not a solution to power scarcity, says Harish Hande 4 months ago
I might not completely agree with Harish Hande. While I appreciate the good intentions behind his statements, I think what we need is a blend of large solar power plants along with decentralised solar power - it should be an AND and not an OR-more»
