Name of the College – Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay
Activities: Research on Demand-Supply Gap in Green Power Sector
Highlights: A student initiative; for the first time such an initiative has been designed to evaluate green energy demand
Location – Mumbai, State of Maharashtra

What is the use of IITs to India if all those students go abroad? I use to ask this question many a times.
The brain drain from IITs have thankfully come down, owing mainly to the much better growth prospects in India itself. (in fact, there is also a reverse brain drain, of IIT-ians beginning to come back to India…)
Adding to such good news is the news that many undergraduates from IIT Bombay will be involved in research on green power demand in the country.
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay students will assist in identifying the country’s energy needs, ways to bridge the demand-supply gap in power sector and the technologies that will be required in this regard.
For the first time a parallel student initiative has been introduced for energy sector especially to visualise the green energy demand. Undergraduate and postgraduate students from IIT Bombay will be heading the student-initiative and will have to submit their report by October 2012, sources in the energy department said.
Let’s hope the other IITs start undertaking similar useful efforts.
