Geothermal and solar power plant in Gujarat

Postby tring tring » Tue Mar 31, 2009 12:18 pm

Tata Power Company Limited, India's largest integrated private power company, today announced the synchronisation of the 250 MW Unit 8 with the grid and rest of the generation units at the Trombay thermal power plant in Chembur, Mumbai.

The 250 MW unit No 8 will operate on imported coal and will enhance the current installed capacity of 1350 MW at Trombay thermal power station. The commissioning of the unit will be undertaken shortly and will help bridge the gap between the ever increasing demand and supply of power, the company said in a release.

The company also signed an MoU with Gujarat government to explore the possibility of setting up of geothermal and solar power plant in the state. It also signed a joint venture agreement with Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) to set up a coal based power plant in Orissa.

Solar Power Generator

I like that solar power is rising in different countries. Here the solar power in Gujarat has a possibility in producing geothermal and solar power plant. If this will happen the solar power will continuously develop. I like the solar power generator. Why? try to see this page..

I am not really sure as to how much of these geothermal projects are really going to take off soon.

The potential for India on geothermal is not fully clear, and one geothermal expert I spoke to says India's geothermal potential (that can be exploited with current technologies) is far less than the claimed 10000 MW.

Narasimhan Santhanam - Expect Tatas to move really big on solar.

If you look at Tata Power, one glaring omission you will see in their portfolio is the very little investments they had done in wind; that could have been owing to the fact that wind was considered until now more of a financial investment than a serious IPP game (though that could change with the recent generation based incentives for wind).

On the other hand, it is clear solar PV will be, right from the beginning, more of an IPP game with incentives being clearly governed by the amount of electricity you generate. With Tatas already being a solar cell producer (Tata BP), it is only natural they will move bigtime on solar power.
