Hira Group is a conglomeration of 13 companies across India and operates in eight business sectors viz. sponge (DRI), steel, power, ferro alloys, cement, coal washery and pellets & mining.

The Group has a concerted social responsibility programme to partner communities in health, family welfare, education and environment protection.

As a primary goal, it continuously works towards implementing pollution preventive methods and techniques to leave minimal effect on the environment and communities.

Hira Group aims at reducing the carbon footprint by afforestation and so has framed a program called “Green Earth”. Under this plan, it has completed the following acts in Central India.

  • Promotion of massive plantation (100,000 trees) in and around work premises of the group, public places, institutions and hospitals etc
  • Planted 1 million saplings in rural regions to control soil erosion
  • Organized a campaign for environmental cleanliness & sanitation with rural children and NGO, “GRAM VIKAS SAMITI”

  • Judicious Use of Water Resources in Power Generation

At its power generating units, Hira Group has installed air cooled condensers which saves 3.25 billion liter/annum and also minimizes the consumption of fresh water from nearby environment.

  • Waste Heat Recovery in Iron Kilns

The Hira Group has made installation of waste heat recovery systems for its sponge iron kilns and thus improved their operational performance in environment. These systems enable the unit to retrieve upto 75% of secondary heat for useful work.

  • Utilization of Alloy Wastes to Valuable Materials

The Hira Group has come up with methods to convert wastes, fly ash and slag from its ferro alloy units to make bricks and lay roads respectively, thereby alleviating their hazardous impact on the environment.

  • Improving Water Resources in Rural Areas

In surrounding rural areas of its operational plants in Central India, Hira Group has constructed bore wells to improve water resources and poor people livelihood.
