In 2009, Praj Foundation and Inora organized the ‘Garden to Waste Competition’ in Pune to encourage the process of making compost from kitchen wastes for gardening. About 40 families from the city participated in the competition and 8 were declared as winners to receive attractive cash prizes at Tathawade Udyan in Karvenagar. Their produce, compost was also at display to the attendants.

  • Conducting Essay Competition on Environment for School Children

To build awareness on environmental issues and global warming among school children between 10 & 15, Praj Foundation conducted the “Green Concepts Essay Competition” in Pune. It was attended by 11,477 students and 57 teachers from 107 schools and essays with thoughtful and eco-friendly ideas were given high ratings to receive awards.

  • Implementation of Sustainable Concepts in School

Praj Foundation established a composting unit at M.E.S.’s Rani Laxmibai Mulinchi Sainiki Shala, residential school in Kasar Amboli, Pune where kitchen wastes from hostels and staff quarters are converted to compost, in turn used to grow vegetables and medicinal plants organically with the help of students.  The firm has also instituted “Green Scholarship” for a student, excels well in environment awareness programmes undertaken by school.

  • Encouraging Urban Mass to adopt Composting of Wastes

Praj Foundation and Inora have implemented decentralized waste management actions through eight satellite centres in Pune. The foundation supports each centre and will in turn disseminate technical and other information on waste management via trained professionals  to household people and encourage them to set up their own compost yards.

  • Restoration of Inland Water Bodies in Maharashtra

In 2008, Praj Foundation had undertaken a three year project, ‘Nirmal Ganga Abhiyan’ with a Pune based NGO, Ecological Society to restore fresh water streams in three villages namely Vavoshi, Manhere, and Kapshi of Maharashtra. Restoration works also took assistance and co-ordination from local school children, teachers & villagers to complete the project.

  • Design and Development of “EcoByke”

With the support from Praj Foundation, Ar. Deepak Mandke of Arcon India, Pune has designed and established an “EcoByke” in 2008 that confers dual benefits by circulating  oxygenated water to aquatic life at the expense of manual cycling work on the bank of a lake.

  • Praj Foundation organized a competition on composting of wastes in Pune and significant works in compost use for gardening were given cash prizes.
  • Praj Foundation motivates school children in Pune to involve in composting of kitchen wastes and utilize it for growing organic vegetables.
