India Hydro-power Down 15% On Poor Rains - India Renewable Energy Consulting – Solar, Biomass, Wind, Cleantech

According to the Ministry of State for Power, India’s hydro-electricity generation was down by 15% for months Jul-Sep owing to poor monsoons.

India received about 25% less rains this year than average, and there were drought-like situations in many districts. This resulted in the state-run NHPC losing 200 million KWh of power since April.

As I have maintained in a few other posts in this blog, the erratic nature of power supplies that are based on renewable sources such as wind, solar and hydro is a serious area of concern. I reckon it is less erratic for hydro than it is for wind or solar, but a 15% drop is a significant enough drop for concern.
