Press release

A delegation of Indian Energy Efficiency professionals and government officials recently visited the Corporate Headquarters and Manufacturing facility of window manufacturer Traco in Cranberry Township, Pa.

The Indian study tour of the United States was organized under Energy Conservation and Commercialization Project-Phase III (ECO-III), which is a result of a bilateral agreement signed between the United States and the Indian Government. The agreement was signed in January 2000 with the objective “to reduce the rate of growth of greenhouse gas emissions by enhancing the commercial viability and performance of Indian energy sector, and also promote utilization of clean and energy-efficient technologies in the sector.” The study group was funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

TRACO was selected in part because its headquarters manufacturing facility is vertically integrated and produces next-generation windows that exceed industry standards for energy. Additionally, TRACO works in cooperation with the Department of Energy (DOE) on advanced framing research project and the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) on the Component Modeling Approach (CMA) program for commercial windows and doors, which was of particular interest to the delegation.

Key members of the group of thirteen who visited the TRACO facility included Sanjay Seth, Energy Economist, Bureau of Energy; Rita Acharya, Director, Ministry of Power, Government of India; Dr. Satish Kumar, team leader of ECO III project, USAID; A. Kumarasamy, Executive Director, Glazing Society of India (largest fenestration association); Dr. Sanjay Vashishtha, DLF Utilities Ltd. (largest real estate company in India); and Ravi Kapoor, team leader of the Study Group, USAID/IRG.

The delegation was able to tour all facets of the manufacturing process for architectural and commercial windows and doors, including design and development, glass tempering and laminating, anodizing, paint finishing, aluminum extruding and glass insulating, assembly and testing. They were particularly interested to tour the NEXGEN technology lines consisting of the NEXGEN Thermal Barrier System and the NEXGEN Energy Spacer.
