A few months back, I had written about the status of offshore wind in India ( see: http://eai.in/blog/2010/04/india-offshore-wind-status-trends-potential.html ) where I had mentioned that very little work had taken place in this area, to the extent that we do not even know the exact potential for offshore wind in India.

A start finally appears to have been made in figuring out what India could do in the offshore wind domain. A recent report from Indian Express (http://bit.ly/attikE ) states, “India is exploring the potential for offshore wind power generation. Deepak Gupta, secretary, ministry of new and renewable energy, told that a study is being undertaken with the help of Chennai-based Centre for Wind Energy Technology (C-WET) to ascertain the feasibility of setting up wind farms in India’s offshore areas.”We expect to complete the study in 2-3 years,” he said.”
