I live in Chennai, so I should have heard this earlier, but had not. Well, I indeed do see Chennai becoming greener, at least in some parts of the city, so the following excerpt from a news article was reassuring and heartening.

“An initiative of the Confederation of India-Chennai Zone aims to position the Tamil Nadu capital as the most desirable city in India within the next 18-60 months by promoting sustainable neighbourhoods that will foster inclusive growth and healthy living in line with the city’s second master plan.

Announcing this, T T Ashok, chairman, Sub Committee on Corporate Social Responsibility, CII-Southern Region, said the Sustainable Neighbourhood Initiative- e-LAWN’, plans to promote environmental awareness among residents through water conservation, controlling air pollution, waste management, promoting greenery, noise abatement and energy conservation.

It also aims at making Chennai one of the five cleanest cities in India, the city with the largest green cover, the best ambient air quality, the most efficient water-recycling and conservation practices and the city making the most efficient use of energy.”

Pity I did not know it earlier. There was even a walk that took place to flag off these events, which I missed too.
