 Electric bicycle research assistance

While electric scooters are creating all the buzz, there is another 2 wheeler segment that very few talk about – electric bicycles.

You might be amazed to know that China sells over close 35 million electric bicycles a year – can you believe that? 35 million! And the country apparently has about 300 million electric bicycles on the road.

Such large numbers of electric bicycles use can make a big difference to air pollution, CO2 emissions and also your and my health (the last one because many electric bicycles can also be pedalled if you wish)

This inspired my team at EAI to dig up a lot more on electric bicycles in India, only to find than we are selling an insignificant number every year – fewer than 100,000, or only 0.3% of that China, and only about 10% of Indian electric scooter sales.

Similar to the electric scooter push, should the country try an electric bicycle push as well? If yes, can we have more data and opinions on this?

I have a personal interest in this as I’m a cyclist myself and was one of the earliest users of electric bicycles in India – around 2010.

Digging further, we found very little information about the electric bicycle market in India, so my team at EAI decided to do something about this, and are putting together a white paper on electric bicycles in India.

I will be happy to connect with anyone who works in the electric bicycle sector in India or has inputs/opinion to share about electric bicycles. End users of electric bicycles are super welcome too to connect with me on this.

Over the next few days, I plan to have interactions with as many as possible so that we are able to bring out a valuable white paper in about a couple of weeks.

I look forward to your support. Do DM me or drop a note in the comments if you are interested in interacting with me on this.

Thank you!
