The resurgence of biogas

Learn how biogas is coming a comeback, and could soon be the fuel your in home and vehicle!

We will be having Kern Agrawal of Carbon Loops talk about his startup’s work in biogas and in the emerging area of renewable natural gas.

The good old biogas is going through a revolution. Seriously? Biogas? C’mon!

Really.

There are two large drivers propelling this metamorphosis.

One, natural gas is becoming a critical transition fuel to a low carbon or Net Zero economy for India (as well as rest of world)

Two, sustainable waste management (be it food waste, municipal waste or agricultural waste) is no longer a nice thing to, it is becoming an imperative.

The above two forces have shaped a new, large industry worldwide literally over the last five years – renewable natural gas, also called BioCNG or Compressed Biogas (CBG, as it is known in India).

The idea itself is simple – biogas, which one gets if one lets bacteria to devour organic waste in anaerobic conditions, contains about 45% methane and 55% CO2, and small amounts of sundry such as H2S.  Now, all one has to do is to remove the CO2 and other impurities and what you are left with is pure methane – but sustainable methane from organic waste and other renewable bio-sources. A renewable, sustainable drop in replacement for methane derived from fossil sources.

With all these interesting developments happening around the good ole biogas, is it any wonder that biogas startups are suddenly getting into the limelight – which in my opinion they had always deserved?

Listen to Kern Agrawal of Carbon Loops take us through the story of his startup and the fast unfolding story of Biogas V 2.0.

Kern will be one of the ten climate startup founders who will be sharing their startup journeys at the event.
