DST invited bids for establishing Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs) across India; each aiming to produce 500 tons of green hydrogen.

Several countries around the world have initiated projects similar to these Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVICs), focusing on the development and integration of hydrogen technologies. Here are some notable examples:

1. The Netherlands – Hydrogen Valley

  • The Netherlands has established several hydrogen valleys, notably in regions like Groningen and North Holland. These valleys aim to integrate hydrogen production, storage, and utilization within local economies.
  • The projects focus on using renewable energy sources for hydrogen production, particularly through electrolysis powered by wind and solar energy. They also emphasize collaboration between public and private sectors to develop a sustainable hydrogen economy.

2. Germany – Hydrogen Valleys Initiative

  • Germany is a leader in hydrogen technology and has launched multiple hydrogen valleys as part of its National Hydrogen Strategy. Regions such as North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony are developing these clusters.
  • The initiative includes projects that use hydrogen for industrial processes, transportation, and energy storage. Germany’s hydrogen valleys aim to create a comprehensive hydrogen infrastructure that supports decarbonization in various sectors.

3. South Korea – Hydrogen Economy Roadmap

  • South Korea has introduced a Hydrogen Economy Roadmap, which includes the establishment of hydrogen valleys in cities like Ulsan and Gwangju. These valleys are designed to foster innovation in hydrogen production and application.
  • The roadmap emphasizes the development of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, infrastructure for hydrogen refueling stations, and industrial applications of hydrogen, particularly in steel manufacturing and power generation.

4. Australia – Hydrogen Hubs

  • Australia is developing hydrogen hubs in regions such as Queensland and Western Australia, focusing on exporting hydrogen and creating local consumption networks.
  • These hubs aim to utilize abundant renewable resources for hydrogen production, targeting both domestic use and international export markets. The initiative includes partnerships with industry and research institutions to drive innovation and scale.

5. Canada – Hydrogen Strategy

  • Canada has launched a Hydrogen Strategy that includes the development of hydrogen valleys in provinces like British Columbia and Alberta. The strategy aims to leverage the country’s natural resources for hydrogen production.
  • The Canadian initiative focuses on using hydrogen for transportation, industrial processes, and as a means of energy storage. It promotes collaboration between government, industry, and academia to advance hydrogen technologies.
