MIT awards the Wind Data Generator (WDG) software “innovation of the year”

The prestigious MIT – Massachusetts Institute of Technology – unveiled on April 9th 2014 at l’Atelier BNP-Paribas in Paris the list of award winners for its annual international innovation competition (TR35).

The wind energy sector was on the spotlight for this 2014 edition as Karim Fahssis -MeteoPole’s CEO- was awarded for the Wind Data Generator (WDG) software.

To identify promising talents and to promote the development of innovation around the world, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology had launched its international innovation competition 10 years ago in the United States. Today’s global influencers like Mark Zuckerberg – Facebook’s CEO – were among the winners of the initial editions of this prestigious competition.

“It is a great achievement for all the people who supported us”, says Mr. Fahssis. “Getting this award from the MIT is a huge recognition and it tells us that we should always keep working in making our ideas become marketable. We want to be actors, not just spectators of the global renewable energy industry development worldwide. The disruptive Wind Data Generator was awarded mostly because this tool already brings a huge added-value to wind power project developers worldwide”.

The WDG software is used to identify high-value wind development opportunities and to optimize financial returns by reducing uncertainties. It is the only tool capable of running the WRF model in order to generate virtual met masts at any location around the globe. Getting this technology in-house is highly cost-effective and allows wind investors to work on their project pipeline development with 100% confidentiality. The WDG is already used by industry leaders worldwide (GDF-Suez, TAQA, Greenko, Leitwind…).
