Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) encourages Bio-fuels in India, Task Force on Bio-fuels, Karnataka Chairman Y B Ramakrishna said recently.

He said IOCL officials in a meeting here recently said the Centre had agreed to increase the Ethanol blending in petrol to ten per cent from the existing five per cent and the need of the hour is to encourage Bio-fuel.

Mr Ramakrishna said the pilot project taken up at Belgaum for ten per cent blending of Ethanol with petrol was successful.

He said KSRTC and BMTC were running 500 buses on bio-diesel blended with diesel. The State was in the fore-front of ethanol production and had an installed capacity of 135 million liters a year, he added.
