Delhi discom wins award for grid-scale battery energy storage system

Showcased at EAI INCLINE

Storage is the Achilles Heel for building a sustainable energy sector. A decade ago, no one (not even Elon Musk) would have dared to put batteries to large-scale, utility level power storage. While Musk later on indeed pioneered scale battery storage for solar farms in Australia, it is still early days for utility scale battery storage.

A start in this direction in India is thus welcome news.

A 10 MWh mega battery storage has been installed in Delhi that can feed around 2,500 “special customers” providing essential services like hospitals, Delhi Jal Board, Delhi Metro and schools among others, and can also manage peak power demand and load curves.

For this effort in developing India’s first grid-scale battery energy storage system (Rohini, New Delhi), Power discom Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) has won the Confederation of Indian Industry Industrial Innovation Award.

This is South Asia’s largest grid-scale Battery Energy Storage System, in collaboration with The AES Corporation & Mitsubishi Electric .

The stored power can also be used during any breakdown or in situations like grid failure.

EAI INCLINE wishes the very best to TPDDL.
