One big question in the CO2 capture debate is – what to do with the captured
#CO2?
While one way is to dump the CO2 somewhere where it does no harm (geological
sequestration), a smarter way is to explore if it can be recycled back into products – chemicals, fuels, oil extraction from depleted oil wells…
Making CO2 to products is a large area of research and pilots worldwide. But some small starts are being made in low hanging areas, where the carbon is present in other forms.
CarbonCraft is a firm with one such interesting effort. They obtain the carbon from places such as tyre
#pyrolysis plants (where the carbon residue is many times a low value or a waste by product) and upcycle these by converting them into tiles – essentially sequestering the carbon for many years to come. (Hat tip to YourStory – https://lnkd.in/g2nn52F – Urshita Pandit )
Small steps as I said, because we are talking about a total CO2 emissions worldwide of about 35 billion freaking tons a year – a whole lot of tiles. But an interesting start all the same.
