If we helped whales return to their pre-whaling numbers of 4- to 5 million (up from 1.3 million today), researchers say they could capture 1.7 billion tonnes of CO2 annually.

That would be about 5% of total CO2 emissions – not a bad amount, more so when you consider that you get an 3 additional million of those magnificent creatures floating around as a bonus.
