Patrick Pouyannรฉ is one of the most outspoken of the Big Oil CEOs, TotalEnergies – perhaps it is a French thing…

When you pop a hard-hitting question at him, he almost always reciprocates – mincing words doesn’t seem to be his style.

And that’s what he does in this interesting interview to CNBC. When queried on large investments made by his firm into oil & gas, he says,

“โ€œSo, letโ€™s keep this balanced. Itโ€™s difficult. I know the scientists told us you should forget [fossil fuels] โ€” but life is like it is. We must make that transition at the pace which can be accepted by the society. Thatโ€™s also one condition of the success.โ€ (Source: CNBChttps://lnkd.in/gVqZUPXf )

Well, there is no doubt it is a practical perspective, if you happen to be a reasonable guy.

But the question: Can being reasonable take us out of the global warming spiral?
