Finance minister has reduced the custom duty on permanent magnet, a driect-drive generator used in small wind turbine, from 7.5 percent to 5 percent.

This is believed to encourage wind power generators and accomplish India’s XIth Five Year Plan Period (2007-12) target of generating 10,500 MW wind power. During the 10th Plan (2002-2007), India saw installation of 5,426 Mw of wind power generation capacity, as against the target of 2,200 Mw.
