Electric bicycles are not exactly new for Hero Cycles. The company had been toying with this category even before the EV fever caught on in the Indian market, though with mixed success.
Come 2020, the company seems to have resolved that it will make serious attempts at the electric bicycle segment once more, as witnessed by the company’s showcasing a range of electric bicycles at the Auto Expo 2020 at Noida in Feb 2020.
The EV Next team was there at the Auto Expo 2020 and had a good look at the Hero e-Bikes on display. The enhanced emphasis on e-bikes from Hero group was clearly visible this time, compared to the Auto Expo 2018 when our team did not see as much of a variety of electric bicycles from Hero Cycles on display.
Hero has electric bicycles for a wide price range – from bikes that the upwardly mobile can purchase to electric bicycles that are perhaps intended for the rich and richer. One needs to wait and see how each of these segments welcome the electric bikes based on the sales of these in 2020.
