    • Madrid to open Spain’s first green hydrogen plant in 2024 at the Arroyo Culebro Cuenca Media Alta wastewater treatment facility in Pinto
    • The plant will be built by Canal de Isabel II, a water-management company, and will have an initial capacity of approximately 80,000 kilograms of hydrogen per year
    • It will be the largest green hydrogen generation plant in Spain to use recycled water and will combine solar generation and biogas cogeneration, using waste from the treatment plant itself

Even India opened up a similar plant very recently. Developed by Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN), it is India’s first multi-purpose green hydrogen pilot project.

The project is located at SJVN’s 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Jhakri, Himachal Pradesh. It features a 20Nm3/hour electrolyzer and 25kW fuel cell capacity system. The project utilizes renewable energy from SJVN’s 1.31 MW solar power plant in Wadhal to produce the green hydrogen.

During an 8-hour daily operation, the pilot project is expected to generate 14 kilograms of green hydrogen, which will be stored in six storage tanks. This green hydrogen will serve dual purposes – it will be used for the high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF) coating of turbine underwater parts, as well as for generating electricity through the 25kW fuel cell.
