Ayana, Greenko form 6 GWh energy storage partnership in India

Source : Renewables Now

Notes by Narsi

An interesting energy storage partnership that made me sit up a bit was that between Greenko and Ayana. I say it is surprising because both of them are developers and thus are technically competitors.

Another interesting aspect of this partnership is that most, if not all, of the storage efforts, will be through pumped hydro storage systems, something we rarely hear about in the private sector in India. Pumped hydro storage has been discussed as a potential storage system for large-scale solar power plants where you pump up the water using the power you wish to store and recover the energy by letting the water fall through turbines.

Pumped hydro storage has traditionally been used along with large-scale hydropower plants but they can fit well with any type of power plant that needs storage.

This is an interesting development to keep an eye on.
