How in the world did three small countries become carbon negative?

Source : Outlook India

Notes by Narsi

Three small countries in the world have something amazing to boast about - they are all carbon negative.

Serious!

Bhutan, Suriname, and Panama stand out from the rest of the world because they absorb more greenhouse gases than they emit.

I was curious how this was possible, and it did not take long to find the answer: Their forest cover.

  • Suriname has a 97% forest cover - 97% of their land is forest, that sounds insanely good, really.
  • Bhutan has a 72% forest cover
  • Panama has a forest cover of over 60%

The numbers for Panama and Bhutan sound average only because of Suriname!

Now, let's see how much forest cover the world's top three emitters - China, USA & India respectively - have:

  • China - 22%
  • USA - 34%
  • India - 25%

Do I need say anything more?
