Where is India in offshore wind?

Source : IndiaSpend

Notes by Narsi

Offshore wind has been slow to take off, and not just in India. Even globally, offshore wind constitutes less than 10% of total wind installed capacity - less than 50 GW of the total of about 850 GW of wind power capacity worldwide.

I don’t think that the time has arrived for offshore wind for countries such as India. We are yet to see steep reductions in overall project costs, something that India should wait for before getting serious about getting these installed.

And when we do get about doing it, it might be a good idea to reflect on something that an expert had mentioned in the article - think about combining it with other value adds such as a desalination plant, a green hydrogen production facility, or even underwater data centers (the last one is not exotic as it sounds - Microsoft has already done pilot projects on that!)
