Solar PV power generation

For companies keen on implementing solar PV power plants in India, EAI can provide comprehensive support in feasibility studies, detailed project reports and in power plant implementation.

The Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) has set ambitious targets for power generation from solar energy in India. The Mission aims to have about 10 GW of grid-connected solar power plants by 2022. The mission is divided into 3 phases and the targets for grid-connected solar PV plants for each phase are

Phase 1

2010-2013

500 MW

Phase 2

2013-2017

1,500 MW

Phase 3

2017-2022

7,000 MW

Total

10,000MW

In addition to the JNNSM, several state governments have separate solar policies (Rajasthan, Gujarat and Karnataka) and many other state governments (Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh etc) are drafting solar policies on their own. Apart from this, the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) is expected to drive the growth of the solar PV power generation sector.

Who can benefit:

  • Companies keen on diversification especially from the infrastructure industry
  • Companies already into power projects based on conventional sources like coal
  • Captive consumers
  • Obligated entities
  • Independent Power Producers
  • Solar PV companies keen on forward integration, and more.

Strategic and financial benefits:

Businesses can benefit mainly through diversification into the promising renewable energy sector, or through captive power generation.  Long term Power Purchase Agreements ensure that the company receives stable returns in the long term for 20-25 years.

EAI offers assistance for clients in the following aspects.

  • Policy and Regulatory Analysis
    • Understanding government policies
    • Evaluation of feed-in-tariffs
    • Other regulatory requirements
  • Bid advisory: JNNSM and a few state policies (Rajasthan, Karnataka) select projects by the reverse bidding process. EAI assists clients in the following areas
    • Analysis of the bidding process
    • Strategy assistance in arriving at a bid price
    • More details are available at EAI BID Advisory services
  • Assessment of land and infrastructure
    • Approximate land required for a setting up grid connected solar PV power plant
    • Solar radiation resource assessments
  • Assessing investments and returns (IRR and payback periods) by analyzing the
    • Capital costs for setting up grid connected solar PV power plants ,including the break-up of the capital costs
    • Operating expenses for grid connected solar PV power plants
  • Evaluating various technology options in solar power generation
    • Comparative analysis of c-Si and Thin Film technologies
    • Assessment of the Balance of System (BOS) components like Inverter and other electrical and mechanical components.
  • Preparation of business plan and detailed project report
